Tech Expert Advocates Increased Adoption of Digital Innovation in Nigeria’s Agriculture, Food Systems

Dr. Yakubu Balogun, a University lecturer in the UK and Analytics Consultant at Intellinavix Nigeria Limited, has called for the incorporation of digital technology into agriculture.

He disclosed this while giving remarks on Wednesday at a press conference organized by the Sustainable Agro and Hunger Eradication (SAHE) foundation ahead of the launch of the Young Tech Farmers (YTF) club scheduled for May 24, 2024.

Dr. Balogun stressed the need to instill a problem-solving mindset in young people, urging them to explore new ways of addressing agricultural challenges.

“If you’re bringing tech into any sector, the idea is that you want to solve a problem. We want to let the younger generation see the need to put on the cap of a problem solver.”

Dr. Balogun proposed various technological solutions, including the use of Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity and the development of mobile apps to facilitate farmer-buyer interactions.

He acknowledged some of the challenges associated with technology adoption, including lack of training, infrastructure, and support from organizations.

He, however, expressed optimism about overcoming these hurdles.

“As we get on with this movement, we will be able to surmount some of these challenges,” he noted.

Speaking on the potential of integrating technology into agriculture, Dr. Balogun commended the initiative for its role in empowering the younger generation.

“By integrating technology into agriculture, we can empower the younger generation to apply their knowledge and competency to solve real-world agricultural challenges, leading to innovation and progress in the sector,” he affirmed.
